Ride Name Date Class Terrain Ride Leader(s) (*) Riders (in addition to Ride Leader(s)) Miles & Notes
Highlands Beginners Ride 5/26/2007 Slow Rolling Kirk Johnson 3: Submitted to HBC 4: Average speed was about 8 mph. Wind was breezy, temperature in the 60s. We meandered through the neighborhood streets. Educated about bike signaling for turns and placement of bikes for left-hand turns at intersections. Learned about road widths and measured a few roads to talk about room for cars and room for bikes, especially with Bike Lanes. Took some photos and posted them in an Edina biking community site.
State Capitol Loop 5/19/2007 Fast! Rolling Kirk Johnson 3: Submitted to HBC 38: Average speed (including stops & some of the traffic delays) was 16 mph for the overall average speed for the entire trip. We had a variety of bikes again, including a lightweight recumbent, two road racing or touring bikes, and a fixed gear. Temps were in the 60s to start and 70s at the finish. Todd B. was going to join us but had bike logistics problems (he forgot he left it at work). Wind was from the southwest at about 10 mph.
State Capitol Loop 5/12/2007 Fast! Rolling Kirk Johnson 3: Submitted to HBC 38: Demographics for the ride were 3 Edina residents and 1 St. Paul resident. Ages were in the 40s and one in the 50s. Average speed (including traffic delays) was 17 mph for the first half only; overall average speed for the entire trip was 16.6. Kirk was on a fixed gear, Dave, Bill, Pat were on racing bikes. Pat and Kirk traded bikes for a post-ride trip to Pat's house. Another highlight was an extra trip up Ramsey hill by Pat and Bill. Steep and fun! Weather was upper 50s to start, 64 at finish. Wind was from the East, 8 – 10 mph. Partly cloudy, beautiful day with lilacs and crab apple trees in bloom.
